Patients and families at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas had a unique opportunity to express their creativity through an Arts and Crafts Fair held in the Zone. Hosted by the Child Life Team and other volunteers, the purpose of the fair was celebrate and explore how art can bring about a creative outlook on life.
Activities included puff painting and décor of bandana art, creating origami butterflies, and fishtailing loom bracelets. Patients and their family members also learned the techniques of designing jewelry such as earrings, enjoyed a funnel cake snack bar, sculpted with kinetic sand, and received many giveaway prizes. Several members from the Funnyactrics team, a clown therapy group that uses laughter as the best medicine, came to engage with the patient families, as well as Izzy from the hospital’s PAWS animal assisted therapy program.
“This was a wonderful event full of laughter, smiles, and colorful pieces of beautiful art work completed by our amazing patient families!” said Thresa Belcher, Director of Social Work and Child Life.
