As football fans across the country anxiously await the NFL Draft, Garth Brooks and Teammates For Kids hosted a football camp for kids interested in playing the game. While in Gainesville for a Stadium Concert at the University of Florida’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium "The Swamp", Teammates welcomed boys and girls to a football camp at the North Central YMCA in Gainesville.
The young athletes, representing Girls Place, Inc., Partnership for Strong Families, Children’s Home Society of Florida, Kids in Seats, North Central Florida YMCA, Legacy Park, Boys and Girls Club of Marion, Boys and Girls Club of Alachua County, Boys and Girls Club of Alachua City and Resilience Charter School, attended the camp for free. Former members of the University of Florida football team, Caleb Sturgis (current LA Chargers kicker) and Chas Henry (former Philadelphia Eagles punter) were coaches who talked to the kids about the importance of teamwork.
Teammates For Kids presents the Good Teammate Award at each youth sports camp they sponsor. The award recognizes the young athletes who best demonstrate the traits of a Total Teammate, including leadership, toughness, unselfishness, and respect for the game and all of its participants. In Gainesville, Good Teammate Awards were presented to: Caleb Davis, age 8; Aiden Lepianka, age 11; and Jarrel, age 13.
Teammates will continue to partner with Brooks to hold youth sports camps at every city on his Stadium Tour. Brooks and athletes in each city will volunteer their time to coach kids in football, basketball, baseball, hockey, or soccer.
