When children who are undergoing medical treatment can’t go to the zoo, the Zone is a perfect place to bring the zoo to them! The Minnesota Zoo makes monthly visits to the Zone at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota in St. Paul, bringing different fascinating animals each time.
This month, patients and their families were thrilled by the vermilingua, commonly known as an anteater, and the great horned owl and chinchilla. “The kids love to get to see and even touch the animals, when appropriate,” said Joanna Davis, Child Life Zone Coordinator. “It brings a unique activity that also distracts from all the stressors of the hospital.”
