While the rest of the country was anxious about the Presidential election, choosing a candidate, red and blue states, and waiting in line to vote, the kids in Child Life Zones across the nation had a fabulous time casting votes for some of their favorite things in Fun Election 2016.
In an effort to bring Election Day excitement to their patients, the Child Life Zones at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital in New York, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis held an election where the kids voted for their favorite color, snack, sport, movie, and pet. Child Life professionals created special ballots, and patients were allowed to complete “absentee” ballots from their rooms.
The results indicate that these kids are pretty united in their love of dogs, popcorn, Finding Dory and Zootopia, the color blue, and football.
“We thought that our patients might enjoy getting involved in a kid-friendly election,” said Melissa Sexton, Child Life Zone Coordinator at Riley Hospital for Children. “Let’s just say that voter turnout was awesome, and the kids had a great time!”
