As the clock counted down to the puck drop of the 2018 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four National Championship, players from both teams stopped by The Child Life Zone at Children’s Minnesota in St. Paul. Among the players that visited from the University of Minnesota- Duluth and Notre Dame were two NHL draft picks--Nick Swaney (MN Wild) and Avery Peterson (MN Wild). Patients and their families enjoyed interacting with the athletes as they played games and received autographed Frozen Four pucks.
Following the visit, patient fans talked about how nice it was that the players cared about them and took time out of their day to hang out. They also expressed excitement about watching the championship game. Child Life Specialist and Zone Coordinator Steph Smith stated, “It was meaningful for our patients and families to be able to experience the energetic atmosphere surrounding this national tournament in our local area. Thank you to everyone who helped make this visit so successful, and congratulations to the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs for winning the title!”
