Garth Brooks and Teammates for Kids will donate a press box to the Kansas City Royals’ Urban Youth Academy. Brooks and Royals general manager Dayton Moore made the announcement during a youth baseball camp hosted by Teammates for Kids on May 6 during the first part of Brooks’ 7-show run at the Sprint Center (he returned for two more shows on May 12 and 13).

The press box will not only be used by working media, but it will also have a classroom where young people can learn about the media industry and practice their announcing skills.

The Urban Youth Academy will encompass four ball fields — two regulation-sized baseball fields, a full-sized softball field, and a Little League field. The main building, on which construction has just begun, will contain batting cages, a turf field, and instructional spaces. The facility is scheduled to open in the fall.

“He’s all about the kids and loving on people,” Moore said about Brooks. “I’d like to think that’s what the spirit with which we’re building this academy is all about as well.”
